Nancy Evans
Nancy Evans, a native Californian, was born in Los Angeles and raised in Fresno. Evans studied sculpture at UC Berkeley and lived in the San Francisco Area for several years becoming involved with performance through the influence of the "Museum of Conceptual Art" established by Tom Marioni in San Francisco. She moved to Los Angeles in 1982 after performing in the "Public Spirit Festival" at LACE and befriending Mike Kelley, Megan Williams, and other recent graduates of CalArts. In 1986 & 1987 Evans received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and from the Rockerfellow Foundation for her collaborative work in Performance.
Evans has exhibited her visual work since 1982 at such venues as LAICA , LACE, San Francisco Art Institute, List Visual Arts Center at MIT, and the Ben Meltz Gallery at Otis School of Art & Design. She has had one person shows at Sue Spaid Fine Art, LA (1992-96), Gasworks Studios in London(1995), Sweeney Art Gallery at UC Riverside (1997), and POST Gallery, LA (1999), and two & three person shows at Fawbush Gallery, NYC (1994), and Marc Foxx Gallery, LA (1995). She was included in "LA Post Cool", curated by Michael Duncan for the San Jose Museum of Art(2002), "An Active Life", curated by Sue Spaid for the Contemporary Art Center in Cincinnati (2000), and "Sick Of Photography", curated by Michael Darling for the Contemporary Art Forum in Santa Barbara (1998). Evans' work has been reviewed in the LA Times, Artforum, Art in America, ArtNews, Art Issues, and other local newspapers. Evans was listed as one of LA's 100 Most Interesting Artist in the November 3, 2005, issue of the LA WEEKLY.
Evans works in a variety of media, including acrylic paint, fabric and fabric dyes, plexi, wood, ceramic, and bronze.
