CHARLES PARKER BOGGS - ARTIST STATEMENT
For various reasons I have competed the Myers-Briggs personality type indicator 4 times. I half expected different results each time, but I always ended up with the same INTP preference. I mention this because on each test I scored a full 30 on intuition, the needle was pegged.
So, as an “artist” I guess it is fair to say that “intuition” guides my direction in most cases.
The “Trophy Lounge” represents the exploration of that intuition.
Originally trained as a painter I now use the medium that befits the “idea” my intuition has guided me to explore. With obsessive drive I do all the work myself, if it is video, I learn the software, if it is sculpture, I sculpt. I touch every part.
After I graduated from The University of North Carolina at Greensboro with an MFA degree I began teaching design and drawing there. I enjoyed shaing in the students exploration, but eventually I came to a crossroads of sorts, either follow the “logical” art career path to New York or go further underground.
Influenced by Marcel Duchamp’s statement, "On the fringe of a world blinded by economic fireworks, the great artist of tomorrow will go underground," I chose to return to the mountains of Southeastern Kentucky, where I have deep roots, sometimes roots ground you, sometimes they let in sustenance and sometimes they just get tangled. I thought it was “underground” enough.
Fueled by my intuition I have an unquenchable need to fill the void, and to work until time runs out.
